![]() ![]() But, the first five sessions or so were just me and the Ref. No other players (those came later-we added people). I rolled up a character, mustered out-my character was standing outside the starport with his duffle thrown over his shoulder, and the Ref said, "What do you want to do?" I was lucky in that I had a Ref who really knew how to run Traveller. ![]() In fact, I'd say it's the best rpg system ever made, imo (though, of course, I do love other games like Traveller and D&D). It sounds like that system is more to your tastes.Īnd, as I said, it's a brilliant system. And, the last time I looked, the D6 Space rules were available for free legally. I love WEG's old Star Wars D6 game, which is what D6 Space is based upon. You might like that better as your base system. But while D6 can be made crunchy and realistic, it's sweet spot is heroic stories. Have you tried D6 Space? It is definitely a brilliant system-probably better "made" (devised?) than Traveller-just as easy to run (easier, I think). Yeah, Classic Trav is definitely more Alien and Outland than it is Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica, as written. Unfortunately, I've never been interested in running such a campaign, and in 1983 I found it easier to beat Traveller into what I wanted than find another game. ![]() You create Normal Joe, caught up in unusual, heroic events. That's one of the neat characteristics of Traveller, imo. ![]()
